HOW TO GET TO TERRA-KHAYA
BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Backpackers Shuttle from East London (± R150.00)
Can be arranged on certain days, and leaves from the Sugar Shack or Buccaneers Backpackers (Baz Bus Stops).
City 2 City bus from East London (± R150.00)
Catch the bus to Alice at the Windmill bus stop (East London beachfront, around the corner from the Sugar Shack) – departs daily at 1:10pm (approximate 2 hour ride). Then take a minibus taxi to Auckland or Hogsback (whichever available) – our shuttle will collect you from the taxi stop in either Alice or Auckland or Hogsback. Please call to arrange.
By Minibus Taxi from East London (± R80.00)
From the main taxi rank in East London, catch a minibus to King Williams Town, then a second taxi to Alice. Then take another minibus taxi to Auckland or Hogsback (whichever available) – our shuttle will collect you from the taxi stop in either Alice or Auckland or Hogsback. Please call to arrange.
By Minibus Taxi from Port Elizabeth (± R130.00)
From the main taxi rank in Port Elizabeth, catch a minibus to Alice (easiest in the morning, as the taxi can sometimes take a while to fill up with passengers). Then take another minibus taxi to Auckland or Hogsback (whichever available) – our shuttle will collect you from the taxi stop in either Alice or Auckland or Hogsback. Please call to arrange.

Please Note: Do NOT follow GPS directions from Grahamstown, via Seymour if you are not traveling in a reliable 4x4
Once in Hogsback Village (from Alice direction) – Follow the Terra-Khaya signs
Go through the village of Hogsback (2km). Turn left into Plaatjieskraal Rd. Follow Plaatjieskraal for 1.7km (through 2 dips), take 2nd right @ Mafika pottery and immediately right again down the concrete strips. First left up hill. At the top of the road you will find Terra-Khaya @ Chillington Farm.
From Cape Town on the N1 via Beaufort West/Graaff-Reinet (Shortest Route)
Take the N1 from Cape Town to Beaufort West. As you go into Beaufort West, turn right onto the R61 to Aberdeen. At the intersection just before Aberdeen, turn left towards Graaff-Reinet on the R61. Just before Graaff-Reinet turn right onto the R75. Travel for ± 16km and then turn left onto the R63 towards Pearston/Somerset East/Cookhouse. Just past Cookhouse, turn left at T-junction onto the N10/R63. Travel for 13km and then turn right towards Bedford/Adelaide/Fort Beaufort/Alice. 4km outside of Alice turn left onto the R345 to Hogsback. Go up the forested pass and, once in Hogsback, follow the signs to Terra-Khaya.
From Cape Town on the N2 via The Garden Route/Port Elizabeth/ Grahamstown
Take the N2 from Cape Town towards Somerset West/George. Go through George, Knysna and Port Elizabeth. 130km from Port Elizabeth you will reach Grahamstown. 10km past Grahamstown, turn left onto the R67 to Fort Beaufort. Go through Fort Beaufort and travel 20km to Alice. 4km from Alice turn left onto the R345 to Hogsback. Go up the forested pass and, once in Hogsback, follow the signs to Terra-Khaya.
From Durban/Mthatha via Cofimvaba/Queenstown & Cathcart (Shortest route – last 60km is dirt road)
Take the N2 from Durban to Mthatha. Once in Mthatha, turn right onto the R61 towards Ngcobo/Cofimvaba/Queenstown. Go through Cofimvaba and head towards the N6 (do not take the first turning left to Cathcart R351 this is a long dirt road). 15 km after the turn-off to R351, take a short 3km dirt road left towards the N6/Cathcart. Follow signs onto N6/Cathcart. Go through Cathcart and turn right onto the R67. Travel for 2km then turn left onto the R345 towards Hogsback. The R345 is a ± 60km dirt road – this not ideal for low-carriage sedan vehicles especially in wet weather. Drive carefully and do not take any left or right turns off this road, until you see the sign turning left to Hogsback. Go down the hill towards the village ± 2km and turn right down PLAATJIESKRAAL RD. From here follow Plaatjieskraal Rd for 1.7km – the Terra-Khaya signs will bring you to our gate…..
From Durban/Mthatha via East London/King William’s Town on the N2 (Longer route – tar all the way but roads are much busier with traffic etc)
Take the N2 from Durban via Mthatha & East London towards King William’s Town. Follow the N2 to King William’s Town. In King William’s Town, follow the N2 signs toward Grahamstown/Alice (turn left into Grey Street, right into Buffalo Street and left into Cathcart Road). Still on the N2, go over the Buffalo River, past the Wimpy and turn right onto the R63 towards Alice. Travel for 58km, then turn right onto the R345 to Hogsback. Go up the forested pass and, once in Hogsback, follow the signs to Terra-Khaya.
From Johannesburg via Bloemfontein/Aliwal North/Queens Town
Take the N1 South from Johannesburg to Bloemfontein. From Bloem take the N6 through Aliwal North to Queenstown and Cathcart. Go through Cathcart and turn right onto the R67. Travel for 2km then turn left onto the R345 towards Hogsback. The R345 is a ± 60km dirt road – this not ideal for low-carriage sedan vehicles especially in wet weather. Drive carefully and do not take any left or right turns off this road, until you see the sign turning left to Hogsback. Go down the hill towards the village ± 2km and turn right down PLAATJIESKRAAL RD. From here follow Plaatjieskraal Rd for 1.7km – the Terra-Khaya signs will bring you to our gate…..
NB - If you do not want to drive the last 60km on dirt road, rather go from Cathcart to Fort Beaufort on the R67 and then via Alice to Hogsback
